Letters, notes and newspaper clippings relating to the history of the Spanish merino sheep in Australia with particular reference to the Cox family flock. Included is a copy of an extract of a letter from Sir Joseph Banks to Captain Waterhouse relating to the importing of merinos from South Africa, accounts and other financial papers, certificates, letters, papers and catalogues relating to thoroughbred horses, letters re stud cattle, legal papers (wills, receipts, etc.).

Edward King Cox was a grandson of Captain William Cox, who in 1810 bought the first merino stud to come to Australia from Captain Waterhouse. Waterhouse had bought the stud from South Africa.
